Easterconin yhteydessä paljastettiin jälleen Hugo ja John W. Campbell -palkintoehdokkaiden nimet. Muutama yllätys itselleni tuli, mutta innokkaana aion tutustua kaikkiin ehdokkaisiin (vaikka esim. Bujold ei ole aiemmin iskenytkään). Alla useimmat kategoriat ehdokkaineen, ja kursiivilla minun osumani. Paras romaani -kategoriassa lisäksi perässä linkki arvosteluuni, jos kirja on jo luettuna (edit: olen lisännyt linkkejä myös myöhemmin). Jälleen kerran monia hyviä teoksia ei listalla näy (ei mm. suomalaisnimiä) ja Campbell-ehdokkaitani ei tälläkään kertaan mennyt yhtäkään läpi. Ian Tregillisin puuttuminen harmittaa eniten. Äänestäjiä oli joka tapauksessa ensimmäisellä kierroksella ennätysmäärä 1006 henkilöä. Vilkaiskaapa ihan huvikseen romaanikategoriasta mikä on ehdokkaiden sukupuolijakauma. Edellisen kerran oli neljä naista ehdokkaana vuonna 1992 (jolloin muuten Lois McMaster Bujold voitti), mutta sitä ennen ja jälkeenkin yleensä määrä on ollut 0-2. Kaikkien niiden kategorioiden ehdokkaat, joita en ole listannut tähän, voi katsoa vaikkapa Locus Onlinen kautta.

Katsoin Easterconin livelähetyksen Hugo-nimeämisistä ja eniten hilpeyttä herätti Paras lyhyt näytelmäteos... Doctor Who, Doctor Who, Doctor Who... Fuck me, Ray Bradbury. Toivottavasti myös Renovation näyttää itse Hugojen jaon livenä netissä elokuussa. Mukavaa katsottavaa.
